Juniors at LHS have an opportunity to serve on the various boards and commissions in Lawrence and Douglas County as special representatives to LHS. They attend the meetings of these boards and commissions and witness the decision making process in our community and its local government. The boards and commissions encourage students to speak about student concerns and issues. This is a program that is unique to Lawrence. Many students have made a difference because of their involvement in these boards and commissions. Juniors report the decisions and activities of these boards and commissions to their U.S. History classes after each meeting they attend. Juniors are also required to attend a meeting of the club once a month to report of the activities and decisions of their board or commission. This is the only time when students will receive input from one another.
